LASIK and Beyond

LASIK | EncinitasThere is a difference when selecting Morris Eye Group. Unlike free-standing Corporate Lasik Centers, we are a Family Eye Practice with a 20+ year commitment and reputation for service to our community. Our physicians are always there for you, every step of the way.

We are living in the new and exciting age of multiple options for vision correction. This new array of choices for vision correction truly makes each patient's choices highly individualized. The physicians at Morris Eye Group provide a complimentary consultation to evaluate which vision correcting procedure would be best for that individual. At this consultation we explore the best options for the patient based upon the patient's age, prescription, general eye health, and vision goals. There are multiple factors, unique to each individual that will affect our recommendation for the best method to correct a patient's vision.

Morris Eye Group offers the following choices for vision correction:

We offer a custom approach to patient care with services beyond LASIK:fashion eyewear, contact lenses, Implantable Contact Lenses and Smart Lens Implants. Our philosophy is contrary to those centers that offer a "one size fits all" approach; hence, we have many solutions available in order to personalize treatment for each patient.

Bottom line for the patient: customized, personalized choices and better, safer results.

We have a quality-controlled Laser Center within our practice holding less than a 1% surgical complication rate.  Some Corporate Lasik Centers have a fast-paced, assembly line approach which can create a greater risk of mistakes: as high as a 15% complication rate.

We do not price the procedure based on a patient’s vision prescription, pupil size, or doctor; furthermore, we do not have any other hidden fees or reasons for price differentials.  Most distinguishing, we offer a Lifetime Enhancement policy for our Laser Vision Correcting patients. After the surgical procedure, our patients stay within our practice for all follow-up care, as well as any future, general eye care.

When choosing Morris Eye Group, patients are choosing a practice that is concerned with their entire wellbeing.

Laser Vision Correction Process:

Below describes all of the different procedures we offer for Laser Vision Correction. Although you have many choices when it comes to the procedure, the process for having each one is similar.  After the doctor has visited with you at your complimentary consultation, you have been determined a good laser vision correcting candidate, and we have taken all the necessary measurements, you will be ready for the procedure.   We give you proper post-op instructions that will help you heal effectively and timely. On your procedure day, you will need a driver and can expect to be at our office for an hour and a half.  The procedure itself only takes about twenty minutes.  At the patient’s request, and doctor’s approval, an oral sedative may be given to assist with anxiety prior to the procedure.  Fifteen minutes following the procedure, your doctor will check your eyes and you will be discharged.  After the procedure, most patients go home and relax or take a nap.  Depending on the type of procedure you have, we will see you in one day or three days for you post-op appointment.

Here are the descriptions of the different types of procedures we offer for Laser Vision Correction at Morris Eye Group:

Traditional LASIK

LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) is a safe, reliable and painless way to improve vision and reduce or eliminate the need to wear glasses or contact lenses. LASIK changes the way light is bent or refracted as it passes through the cornea, so that light focuses properly on the retina, and objects can be seen clearly. During the procedure, a device called a microkeratome creates a thin flap in the surface of the cornea. Patients are given numbing eye drops so they can't feel the instruments. The flap is lifted and an Excimer Laser beam reshapes the cornea's curvature to improve vision. The flap is then closed and covered with a protective contact lens.

The entire procedure takes only 10-15 minutes for both eyes. The flap heals on its own within a few days with no need for stitches.

CustomVue LASIK

LASIK | EncinitasVISX™'s CustomVue procedure combines the technologies of the WaveFront and STAR S4 Excimer Laser systems for high-definition, high-accuracy LASIK vision correction. CustomVue makes it possible to perform customized refractive surgeries using measurements individually tailored to your eyes. This allows us to correct the very specific refractive errors that obscure each patient's vision so you can enjoy the best post-operative vision quality possible. Other benefits of the CustomVue process include: faster treatment time and the elimination of pupil dilation.

IntraLase®

Intralase | EncinitasThe state-of-the-art IntraLase® technology replaces the microkeratome that has traditionally been used to create the necessary corneal flap during laser vision correction procedures. Rather than creating the flap with a blade, IntraLase® uses laser energy to make an incision.

PRK

PRK or photorefractive keratectomy is one of the safest and most time-tested laser vision correction procedures available. Like LASIK, it reshapes the cornea to improve vision.

PRK Procedure

LASIK | Encinitas

The first step in PRK is to remove the epithelium, a thin layer protecting the cornea. Then the surgeon uses an excimer laser to vaporize a small amount from the top of the cornea. LASIK, by contrast, creates a flap in the cornea using a microkeratome. Most complications associated with Laser Vision Correction occur with the flap that is created during the LASIK procedure.  PRK avoids these risks because there is no formed flap.
